There are significant works on the origin of the gusle, as well as its historical representation and importance, which will be discussed in the introduction itself. Emphasizing the role of the individual, primarily the epic tradition, is increasingly relevant today among ethnomusicologists and folklorists. Kosta Plakalovi\u0107, as a contemporary and folk singer with gusle accompaniment who lives in the Sarajevo area, in Vu\u010dja Luka and Mokro, is undeniably one of the most respected guslar in the 21st century, both in the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in the wider area of the republics of the former Yugoslavia. The main part of the work contains information that will try to shed light on the meaning and role of the gusle. This will contribute to the role that individuals play in contemporary ethnomusicology, especially when it comes to the epic singing with gusle accompaning.
